Zidane agreed to lead France national team after 2026 World Cup
Zinedine Zidane has moved closer to becoming the head coach of the French national team. According to Le Parisien, the 53-year-old reached a verbal agreement with the French Football Federation several weeks ago.
Zidane is expected to replace Didier Deschamps after the 2026 World Cup. The main terms have been agreed, but negotiations are not yet complete — one of the key issues is the size of the coaching staff. Zidane wants more assistants than Deschamps had.
Federation president Philippe Diallo confirmed that the new coach's name will only be officially announced after the World Cup final, scheduled for July 19.
Zidane — a World Cup and European Championship winner as a player — has coached exclusively within the Real Madrid system, leading the first team twice between 2016–2018 and 2019–2021.
