Iran broke through Israeli air defense: over 160 casualties, residential buildings destroyed

Iranian ballistic missiles struck the southern Israeli cities of Arad and Dimona, piercing the country's multi-layered air defense system. According to emergency services, more than 160 people were injured — 84 in Arad and 78 in Dimona. Among the wounded is a ten-year-old boy in serious condition. The missiles, carrying warheads weighing hundreds of kilograms of explosives, scored direct hits on residential areas in both cities, blowing through the outer walls of apartment buildings and leaving deep craters. "It is a very frightening scene — many wounded with injuries of varying severity," said paramedic Yakir Talkar. The strikes landed several kilometers from the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center — a facility long believed to house Israel's undeclared nuclear arsenal. The IAEA confirmed no damage to the center and no radiation contamination beyond its perimeter.Tehran described the strikes as retaliation for an attack on Iran's Natanz nuclear facility that same Saturday. The IDF stated it had no knowledge of any strike on Natanz. Iran's Atomic Energy Organization condemned the Natanz attack as a violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but said there was no radiation threat to nearby residents.Israeli authorities have launched an urgent investigation into how the missiles bypassed the air defense system. Experts note that even during last summer's 12-day war, the interception system failed to provide complete protection.
